I’ll Never Understand

Composed, Copyrighted and Performed
by Roger Himes

I Guess I’ll Never Understand
your need to lead me on so long
Keeping me strung along
while I was not included in your plans.
You were an actor on a stage
acting out dramas of secret charades
It doesn’t seem right, the roles we play
just to have our own way.

I thought I knew you so well
but I guess I was mistaken
When I met the real you
the you I knew before
appeared so untrue.

I Guess I’ll Never Understand
the way you seem to never care
That we no longer belong together
it just seems so darn unfair
You knew you were distant and cold
and you heard me tell you so
many times before
But you seemed to never want to mend
so you left me alone to pretend.

My soul needs your soul
I keep breathing though I feel like dying
But we never had a chance
my hopes are gone,
there’s no use in trying.

I Guess I’ll Never Understand
how you could fake your love for me
How without a backward glace
you taught me all the hurt
that comes from loving
I Guess I’ll Never Understand
why you tried to lead me on
through a fairy land
To you, I guess, I was just a game
I guess I have myself a lone to blame.

Now I’m learning what hell is like
but never fear, I’ll live again
I was in heaven it seemed,
but now it’s just a faded dream.
